Plain-Language Summary
This summary is provided for your convenience. The full terms follow and are binding.
- PiggyBack is a personal finance tool that helps you track money you didn’t spend (“avoided spending”), calculate a Financial Freedom Index (“FFI”) score, and plan how to allocate savings to debt, investments, or charity via “Freedom Sweeps.”
- We are not a bank, broker-dealer, or registered investment adviser. We do not hold your money. We do not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. What you see in PiggyBack is for informational and educational purposes only.
- To use certain features, we connect to your bank accounts through Plaid. Plaid is the service that actually talks to your bank. Plaid has its own privacy practices; we describe what we do with data we receive in our Privacy Policy.
- We charge a monthly or annual subscription for paid tiers, processed by Stripe. You can cancel at any time.
- You own your data. You can export or delete your account from the app at any time.
- These terms include an arbitration clause and a class-action waiver. You can opt out of the arbitration clause within the first 30 days by following the procedure in Section 17.
- We can only be liable for a limited amount under these terms, generally the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months.
1. Agreement to These Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding legal contract between you (“you,” “your,” or “user”) and PiggyBack Finance LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company (“PiggyBack,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms govern your access to and use of the PiggyBack website, web application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not create an account and do not use the Service.
If you are using the Service on behalf of another person, you represent that you have authority to bind that person to these Terms. You may not use the Service on behalf of another person as their financial advisor, fiduciary, or agent without the express prior written consent of PiggyBack.
2. Eligibility
To use the Service, you must:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Be a resident of the United States
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract
- Not be prohibited from using the Service under the laws of your jurisdiction of residence
- Not be on any U.S. sanctions list or resident of a country subject to U.S. embargo
If you do not meet these requirements, do not use the Service. If we learn that a user does not meet these requirements, we may suspend or terminate the account.
3. Account Registration
To use most features of the Service, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
- Maintain and promptly update your information to keep it accurate, current, and complete
- Maintain the security of your account credentials, including enabling multi-factor authentication if you link a financial account
- Not share your account with another person
- Notify us promptly of any unauthorized access to or use of your account
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. PiggyBack is not responsible for losses arising from unauthorized use of your account that you failed to report promptly.
4. Description of the Service
4.1 What PiggyBack Does
PiggyBack is a personal finance tracking and planning tool. The Service enables you to:
- Log “avoided spending” — purchases you consciously chose not to make
- View a Financial Freedom Index (“FFI”) score that reflects your financial progress based on inputs you provide
- Plan allocation of avoided spending to debt payoff, investment, and charitable giving targets via “Freedom Sweeps”
- Optionally connect your bank account(s) for automated tracking (paid tiers only)
- View gamification features, goals, and social elements where enabled
4.2 What PiggyBack Is Not
PIGGYBACK IS NOT A BANK, BROKER-DEALER, MONEY SERVICES BUSINESS, REGISTERED INVESTMENT ADVISER, FINANCIAL PLANNER, TAX ADVISER, LEGAL ADVISER, OR ACCOUNTANT. THE SERVICE DOES NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL, INVESTMENT, TAX, OR LEGAL ADVICE.
Information displayed in the Service — including your FFI score, avoided-spending totals, Freedom Sweep projections, and any suggested allocations — is for informational and educational purposes only. You should consult a qualified professional before making material financial decisions.
PiggyBack does not currently hold, transfer, or move your money. Any future feature involving money movement will be governed by additional specific terms at that time.
4.3 Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party services including Plaid, Stripe, and others. Your use of those services is subject to their separate terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third-party services. Notable third parties:
- Plaid, Inc. provides the connection between PiggyBack and your bank. Plaid’s terms and privacy policy are available at plaid.com/legal.
- Stripe, Inc. processes subscription payments. Stripe’s terms and privacy policy are available at stripe.com/legal.
5. Subscription Tiers, Billing, and Cancellation
5.1 Tiers
PiggyBack offers the following tiers, subject to change with reasonable notice:
- Free: basic avoided-spending tracking and FFI score with limited features
- Basic: paid monthly or annual; includes ad-free experience and additional features as described in the app
- Premium: paid monthly or annual; includes bank account linking via Plaid and additional premium features
5.2 Billing
Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize PiggyBack (via Stripe) to charge your payment method on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, as selected by you) until cancellation.
Subscription fees are displayed in the Service at the time of purchase. Fees are quoted in U.S. Dollars. Applicable taxes may be added.
Subscription terms auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled by you.
5.3 Cancellation and Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Account Settings area of the app or by contacting support at support@piggybackfinance.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. You retain access to paid features through the end of that period.
Except where required by law, subscription fees are non-refundable. We may, at our discretion, provide refunds or credits in cases of service disruption, billing errors, or exceptional circumstances.
5.4 Price Changes
We may change subscription prices with at least thirty (30) days’ advance notice by email to your registered address. Price changes take effect at the start of the next billing period after the notice period. Continued use of a paid tier after the effective date of a price change constitutes acceptance.
6. Bank Account Linking (Plaid)
If you choose to connect a bank account, the connection is made through Plaid, Inc.’s service. Plaid authenticates you with your financial institution and provides PiggyBack access to certain information about the linked account(s), including account balances, transaction history, account metadata, and account identifiers.
6.1 Your Authorization
By connecting a bank account, you authorize:
- Plaid to access information from your financial institution on your behalf
- Plaid to share the accessed information with PiggyBack
- PiggyBack to use the information solely to provide the Service as described in the Privacy Policy
6.2 Your Rights and Controls
- You may unlink a connected bank account at any time via Account Settings; we will call Plaid’s removal endpoint to revoke the connection
- You may request deletion of your account and all associated data per Section 12
- We do not sell, rent, or license data obtained through Plaid to any third party
- We do not use Plaid-derived data for advertising targeting
6.3 Accuracy of Bank Data
PiggyBack displays information as received from Plaid and your financial institution. We do not independently verify the accuracy or completeness of this information. Data may be delayed, incomplete, or incorrect. Do not rely on displayed information for payment decisions, overdraft avoidance, or time-sensitive financial actions without verifying with your financial institution directly.
7. User Content and Conduct
7.1 Your Content
You retain all rights to the data you enter into the Service (“User Content”). By providing User Content, you grant PiggyBack a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, store, reproduce, and display the User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This license ends when you delete the User Content or your account, except to the extent retention is required by law or these Terms.
7.2 Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Violate any law, regulation, or third-party right
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, or PiggyBack systems
- Use the Service to harass, harm, or impersonate another person
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service
- Interfere with the Service’s operation, including by sending automated requests that exceed reasonable use
- Use the Service to store or transmit malicious code
- Use the Service in a manner that could damage or overburden our infrastructure
- Submit false or misleading information during registration or account maintenance
- Use the Service on behalf of any other person without authorization
- Scrape, crawl, or harvest content or data from the Service without our express written consent
7.3 Consequences of Violation
We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms or applicable law. We may preserve and disclose information if required by law or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of PiggyBack, our users, or others.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service, including all software, designs, text, graphics, logos, icons, and trademarks, is owned by PiggyBack Finance LLC or its licensors and is protected by U.S. and international intellectual property laws. “PiggyBack,” the PiggyBack logo, “Financial Freedom Index,” “FFI,” “Freedom Sweep,” and other marks used in the Service are trademarks of PiggyBack Finance LLC.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service solely for your personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
9. Feedback
If you submit suggestions, ideas, or feedback about the Service (“Feedback”), you grant PiggyBack a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use the Feedback for any purpose. You represent that your Feedback does not infringe any third-party rights.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PIGGYBACK DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, PIGGYBACK DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE; THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED; THAT INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THE SERVICE WILL BE ACCURATE, CURRENT, OR COMPLETE; OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS.
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties. To the extent any such warranty cannot be disclaimed, the applicable warranty is limited in duration to the shortest period permitted by law.
10.1 Financial Information Disclaimer
INFORMATION, CALCULATIONS, AND PROJECTIONS PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE ARE FOR INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY AND DO NOT CONSTITUTE FINANCIAL, INVESTMENT, TAX, OR LEGAL ADVICE. PIGGYBACK IS NOT A REGISTERED INVESTMENT ADVISER. YOU SHOULD CONSULT A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL BEFORE MAKING MATERIAL FINANCIAL DECISIONS. PAST PERFORMANCE IS NOT INDICATIVE OF FUTURE RESULTS. FFI SCORES AND FREEDOM SWEEP PROJECTIONS ARE BASED ON INPUTS YOU PROVIDE AND ASSUMPTIONS BUILT INTO THE SERVICE; ACTUAL FINANCIAL OUTCOMES WILL VARY.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- IN NO EVENT WILL PIGGYBACK, ITS MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST SAVINGS, LOSS OF USE, LOSS OF DATA, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF PIGGYBACK HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
- PIGGYBACK’S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID PIGGYBACK IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of certain damages; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
12. Termination and Account Deletion
12.1 Termination by You
You may stop using the Service or delete your account at any time. To delete your account:
- Navigate to Account Settings and select “Delete Account,” or
- Send a request to support@piggybackfinance.com from your registered email address
On confirmed deletion, we will: revoke your authentication, cancel any active subscription, call Plaid’s /item/remove endpoint for any linked Items, delete your user-owned data from our systems per our Data Retention & Deletion Policy, and remove or anonymize your entries in shared features. Some records are retained as described in our Privacy Policy (for example, billing records for tax and regulatory purposes and records subject to legal hold).
12.2 Termination by Us
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if:
- You materially breach these Terms
- We are required to do so by law or regulator
- Your account poses a security risk to PiggyBack or other users
- We cease offering the Service
- Your account has been inactive for an extended period as described in our Privacy Policy
Where practical and not prohibited by law or risk, we will provide advance notice.
12.3 Effect of Termination
On termination, your right to access the Service ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution — will survive.
13. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PiggyBack, its Members, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or applicable law
- Content you submit to the Service
- Your violation of any third-party right, including intellectual property or privacy rights
- Your use of the Service to make financial or other decisions without consulting a qualified professional
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to you by email or in-app notice at least thirty (30) days before taking effect, or a shorter period where required by law or security necessity. Non-material changes may take effect immediately. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, discontinue use of the Service.
15. Notices
Notices to you will be provided by email to your registered address or by in-app notice. You consent to receive electronic notices from us, including notices of material changes to these Terms, security incidents, legal compliance matters, and account-specific communications.

16. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to the arbitration provisions in Section 17, any judicial action arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
17. Binding Arbitration and Class Action Waiver
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN COURT AND YOUR RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION.
17.1 Agreement to Arbitrate
Except for disputes that qualify for small claims court and except for claims for injunctive relief to protect intellectual property or enforce confidentiality, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service (a “Dispute”) will be resolved by binding individual arbitration. Arbitration is an alternative to a lawsuit; there is no judge or jury, and review is limited.
17.2 Arbitration Procedure
Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, available at adr.org. The arbitration will be held in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, or by video or telephone conference at the consumer’s election, or in writing for claims under $25,000. The arbitrator’s award is binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
17.3 Class Action Waiver
YOU AND PIGGYBACK AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. IF A COURT OR ARBITRATOR DETERMINES THAT THE CLASS ACTION WAIVER IS UNENFORCEABLE FOR A PARTICULAR DISPUTE, THE PORTION OF THIS ARBITRATION AGREEMENT RELATING TO THAT DISPUTE WILL BE SEVERED AND LITIGATED IN COURT; THE REMAINDER OF THE ARBITRATION AGREEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT.
17.4 Opt-Out of Arbitration
You may opt out of Section 17 (Arbitration and Class Action Waiver) by sending written notice of your decision to opt out to legal@piggybackfinance.com within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms. The notice must include your name, registered email, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration. If you opt out within this period, neither you nor PiggyBack will be bound by the arbitration provisions.
17.5 30-Day Right to Reject Changes
If PiggyBack makes a material change to this Section 17, you may reject the change by providing written notice within thirty (30) days of the effective date, in which case your agreement will remain governed by the prior Section 17 as to any dispute accruing before the change.
18. Miscellaneous
18.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any additional terms presented for specific features, constitute the entire agreement between you and PiggyBack regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject.
18.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force, and the unenforceable provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law.
18.3 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision does not waive our right to enforce that provision later or to enforce any other provision.
18.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any rights or obligations under them without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
18.5 Force Majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of war or terrorism, pandemic, labor disputes, governmental actions, utility or telecommunications failures, or third-party service outages.
18.6 Independent Contractors
These Terms do not create any partnership, joint venture, agency, employment, or fiduciary relationship between you and PiggyBack.
18.7 No Third-Party Beneficiaries
These Terms are for the benefit of you and PiggyBack and do not confer rights on any third party.
18.8 Headings and Summary
Section headings and the Plain-Language Summary are for convenience only and do not affect interpretation of these Terms. If the summary and the detailed terms conflict, the detailed terms govern.
19. State-Specific Disclosures
19.1 California Residents
California users have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CPRA”). Those rights are described in our Privacy Policy. California users may request information regarding our disclosures of personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes under California Civil Code § 1798.83; we do not engage in such disclosures.
19.2 Massachusetts Residents
Massachusetts users are protected by the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (M.G.L. c. 93A) and the Massachusetts Data Security Regulation (201 CMR 17.00). Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under Massachusetts law. PiggyBack maintains a comprehensive Written Information Security Program consistent with 201 CMR 17.00.
19.3 Other State Privacy Laws
Additional state privacy laws (including in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Utah, and others as enacted) may grant you rights with respect to your personal information. Exercise of those rights is described in our Privacy Policy.
